a couple weeks ago, when the sun broke the winter sky and scrambled to glue all the pieces back together but left the weather warm enough for open car windows and sunshine smiles, i did a short jaunt to washington dc to perform at hole in the sky after performing an uber sweet show in philadelphia.
as always i am so inspired and in awe of the artists and musicians i find myself sharing space with. . . . . . . . .
Schmekel – An all trans all Jewish polka punk band from Brooklyn who performed in Philadelphia and DC. Sometimes my inner grandma comes out and I want to say things like “What charming and talented young gentlemen!” without seeming totally weird and creepy. Schmekel provoked that a lot for me.
Laura Rabbit – A solo-project from keyboard-videoband Maple Rabbit. Tenderness forever!
Annah Anti-Palindrome – Somehow all my photos from Annah’s unique and heartfelt performance disappeared and the video had no sound, which means you will have to try and see her live somehow, somewhere to appreciate the extent of her magic.
Liz Ciavolino – Anyone who brings a giant-ass harp to a performance is a total badass. Anyone who proceeds to elegantly pluck poetically crafted songs with a jazzy edge and accordion accompaniment has me entirely charmed and captivated.

there is something totally meditative about driving long distances alone. you really have the chance to explore some of those hard to reach inner places that compulsive multi-tasking and frantic time (mis)management render difficult or impossible while at home or in a similar stagnant position.
i thought filming while driving seemed like a good idea in that regard. to capture some of that quiet heaviness that possesses the long distance driver like some melancholy spirit floating through the stars. my eyes were always safely directed towards the road though (!)
