A letter to passersby…

You have happened upon this blog or perhaps I have invited you to take a gander. Either way I welcome you to view the start of the self-portrait-a-day project that will begin as of tomorrow.

I have some amount of insecurity that this project will be seen as some narcissistic front (let me tell ya, I love my face). I will not write that off because at points perhaps it will be but the main intentions are to 1. make the practice of art-making a daily ritual 2. connect this to other rituals and various idiosyncrasies of daily life 3. use this this project as a tool to speak to my identity and experiences as a white, queer, middle-class transgender woman 4. document my relation to depression and mania.

In ways, I see this project as a tool for social justice in how dialog forms on privilege and marginalization, whether it be with myself through the artwork or other through comments, feedback, and constructive criticism.

I have no long term goals or dreams for this project, even meeting the goals listed above are second to just maintaining the process and following where it leads. The definition to what a self-portrait is will not be defined, though I imagine it will not be so abstract.

Other things that may be posted: profiles on interesting artists or movements, recipes, instructions for way fun games, or inspiring pictures, especially if it involves a cat.

Thanks you for viewing Stitching Tentacles. Please come back two to three times a week when I will be posting the portraits.

with the love of puzzles and quilts,
